Celebrate endings-for they precede new beginnings
It is my honour to welcome and recognise our newly appointed members of the Board of Management. Your dedication and diverse expertise will be invaluable as we steward Kabare Girls into its next phase of growth and excellence. Our motto-In Pursuit of Excellence-guides every decision we make. We hold fast to our vision to be the leading school in the provision of quality Secondary Education, and our mission to provide quality and all-inclusive education through the inculcation of knowledge and values which prepare members of the school community to become skilled and responsible citizens in service to humanity.
We have set an ambitious target of a mean score of 9.7 in the upcoming KCSE examinations. Recording an improvement in two consecutive years (2021: 8.5646 → 2022: 8.7273 → 2023: 8.7645) is no mean achievement-it reflects the tireless commitment of our girls and the unwavering support of our staff and parents. I extend heartfelt appreciation to our teachers for their innovative teaching and mentorship, and to our parents for entrusting us with the education of your daughters. We also thank our sponsors and the Bishop of A.C.K. Diocese of Kirinyaga for providing an enabling environment and steadfast support.
To enrich learning and broaden horizons, we will extend collaboration with community partners-NGOs, alumni, local businesses, and higher education institutions-to integrate entrepreneurial and academic perspectives into our curriculum. By introducing business-minded projects alongside rigorous academics, we prepare our girls to innovate, lead, and create sustainable ventures. To sustain momentum, the Board will establish academic awards and scholarships celebrating top performers each term, a mentorship programme pairing senior girls with alumni role models, leadership incubators where students develop small social or business enterprises under faculty supervision, excellence badges awarded for improvements in effort, initiative, and innovation, and parental engagement workshops equipping families to support home study environments.
Allow me to share a light yet thoughtful story that reminds us of the power of action and diligence. Once upon a time, in a small animal village, there lived a tortoise named Tiko who always complained about how slow he was. He often said, "Why should I try? I'll never be as fast as the hare or clever like the owl." So, instead of practicing or studying like the others, Tiko spent his days napping under a mango tree. When the village held its annual talent show, every animal showcased a skill they had worked hard on. The hare danced, the parrot sang beautifully, and even the chameleon painted leaves with her tail. When it was Tiko’s turn, he had nothing to offer. Embarrassed and regretful, he realized that had he spent even a little time each day sharpening any skill, he could have had something to share. From that day on, Tiko became the most curious and hardworking tortoise in the village. His story became a favourite reminder to the animal children that talent may differ, but effort is the common path to success.
As we commit ourselves to ‘In Pursuit of Excellence,’ we do so mindful of Colossians 3:23, which reminds us that ‘whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.’ And we draw courage from Philippians 4:13: ‘I can do all things through him who strengthens me.’ In the hands of determined hearts and united minds, excellence is not merely a goal-it becomes our legacy.
