Mathematics is a core subject that is really the backbone of good performance in a school.
For the school to move from a good school to a great school the performance of Mathematics must positively improve. If students improve in Maths they will automatically improve in all other subjects because they have learnt to be patient persistent even when things are not working in their favour.
As a department we have been having Mathematic contest where we invite s chools. The tur n-out ha s be en encouraging but due to Covid -19 pandemic we are planning to have an internal contest where students will compete and be given awards so as to motivate them.
Every Friday from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 pm the department have introduced a Mathematics hour where students are in groups discussing prepared work from teachers, who coordinate the discussion. Form 3 and 4 have discussion at night after fortnight and other classes like form 2 and 1 want to be brought on board. Every Thursday from 7.30-8.30 p.m. there is a C.A.T for all classes where teachers mark and give the feedback and the ones who have done well are awarded.
Our target mean for K.C.S.E this year is 8.5+ and we strongly believe it is achievable.
The department believes in team w o r k a n d consultation. We are twelve teachers in the department, four are fully teaching Maths while the rest are partially in Maths and Sciences.
We are trying to use all possible means to demystify the subject and believe with the right attitude and gear and moving in same direction, we are heading somewhere. We are encouraging the students to consult the teachers at any available time and play their part passionately.
We recognize God as the great Mathematician who inspires us to manage time properly and respect one another, accommodate each other and support one another.
God Bless Mathematics Department.
