Kenya Science and Engineering Fair

The Triumphant Journey to the Top in KSEF 2026’
For six long years, the national stage of the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) felt like a distant memory. But true giants never stay down forever. This year, the corridors of Kabare Girls High School buzzed with a different kind of energy-the hum of soldering irons, the clatter of keyboards, and the quiet determination of young minds ready to rewrite history.
In 2026, we didn't just participate; we announced our return to the high table of Kenyan Science and innovation with a resounding roar. Led by our brilliant student leaders, Valary and Lisa Mutheu, a formidable team of 49 young innovators stepped up to carry the Kabare banner.
Our road to reclaiming glory was built on relentless research, late nights, and an unwavering belief in our ideas. The sheer scale of our success this year speaks for itself:
• The Subcounty Launchpad: We entered the arena with 16 innovative projects, showcasing everything from environmental solutions to cutting-edge software applications.
• The County Sweep: Demonstrating incredible depth, 13 out of our 16 projects sailed through to the County level, leaving our competitors in no doubt that Kabare was back.
• Regional Level: At Regional level, we presented 9 items and 3 of the projects managed to the National Competitions.
• The National Triumph: After scaling the Regional hurdles, we registered three exceptional projects at the National level, reclaiming our rightful spot among the elite academic giants of the Central Region and Kenya at large.
Our national qualifiers pushed the boundaries of applied Physics, Software Engineering, and Space Science. Here are the groundbreaking projects and the brilliant minds who took them to the top:
1. The Digital Clinometer
• Category: Physics & Applied Science
• Innovators: Joyce Wanjiru (Form 3V) & Becky Mitchelle (Form 4X)
• The Innovation: A sophisticated digital device designed to measure angles and distances with extreme precision, modernizing traditional surveying tools.
2. The Road Guardian
• Category: Energy & Transportation
• Innovators: Stacey Kyalo (Form 3V) & Tamara Wambui (Form 3V)
• The Innovation: A smart, multi-layered safety system designed to minimize road accidents. It automatically restricts a vehicle's speed if it exceeds safe limits, detects driver drowsiness to alert and slow down the car, and safely shuts off the engine if it detects alcohol on the driver's breath.
3. The Dual Mode UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)
• Category: Space Science
• Innovators: Blessing Ngari (Grade 10M) & Rita Ruela (Grade 10M)
• The Innovation: A highly versatile aerial drone designed to switch seamlessly between flight modes to optimize aerodynamics and energy efficiency for exploration and surveillance.
Going International!
Our scientific ambition didn't stop within Kenya's borders. This year, Kabare Girls also made its mark on the global stage by participating in the Kids International Conference 2026. Representing our school with immense distinction, our innovators designed and presented a revolutionary Robotic Wheelchair project. This technology aims to redefine accessibility and grant independence to individuals with mobility challenges, proving that Kabare's empathy is just as strong as our engineering. The team Captured National Attention where an article was published in Daily Nation about the great Innovators from Kabare Girls.
The Pillars of Support Behind the Science
Great innovations do not happen in a vacuum. Behind every successful project was a formidable support system of educators who pushed us to think beyond the classroom, troubleshooting our designs and polishing our presentations.
"Innovation is not just about finding answers; it's about having the courage to ask the right questions."
Our deepest gratitude goes to our tireless leadership:
• The Chief Principal Ms. Wambui Njoroge and the BoM at large. She made sure that every resource that we needed was available and ensured that this daring dream come true.
• The Visionary Patron: Mr. Boniface Hinga, whose belief in our potential never wavered.
• The Dedicated Assistant: Ms. Marylyn Cherono, who kept our spirits high and our focus sharp.
This historic comeback was further fuelled by a powerhouse group of supervisors who dedicated their time, expertise, and weekends to guide us. We salute:
• Ms. Joy Njagi
• Mr. Erick Miano
• Mr. Elvis Kinyua
• Mr. James Kirucha
• Mr. Lawrence Maingi
• Mrs. Jane Wambugu
• Mrs. Penina Kinanga
• Mr. Jackson Mwai
Thank you for being the wind beneath our wings!

Reclaiming our name in 2026 is not the destination-it is just the beginning. We have proven that the Scientific spirit at Kabare Girls is alive, well, and more vibrant than ever. To every one of our 49 innovators who dared to dream up a project, to everyone who stayed up late to test a hypothesis, and to our incredible teachers: this victory belongs to all of us. Let this year be a reminder that when Kabare Girls dares to innovate, the whole nation stops to watch. Let's keep the scientific fire burning. See you at the Nationals again in 2027!
